Teaching

  • Concepts and principles of systematics and evolutionary biology with a focus on plants and fungi. This includes basic- and advanced-level courses in floristics, biogeography, molecular cytogenetics, population biology, ecological and evolutionary genomics, evolutionary ecology, and chemodiversity related to biotic interactions and the co-evolutionary process.
  • Key methods and analytical tools in evolutionary botany: morphometrics, molecular markers including PCR-based markers, DNA-sequencing, NGS-based genome resequencing and ´genotyping-by-sequencing´, transcriptomics, cytogenetic analyses (e.g., molecular cytogenetics, genome size), phytochemistry, phylogenetic reconstruction, evolutionary bioinformatics.
  • Field courses and supervised student projects in Central Europe and in biodiversity ´hot spots´ around the world, including e.g. the Mediterranean, Neotropics, and Paleotropics. Our traditional strength lies in plant diversity-related teaching, and this will be complemented by new field courses in evolutionary and experimental ecology in the near future
